If you are a music lover and have an iPhone or an iPad, surely, you may have downloaded songs from various artists to your device. If you play these songs using Apple Music, you know that the cover art for the album or song automatically gets added to the music file. This means it should automatically show when the app plays the song or album. If you notice that, instead of the song or album cover, your music library only loads a generic music icon as a placeholder, then there is something wrong. Below are the steps to fixing this issue.

Update your operating system
Sometimes, to fix issues on the iPhone or iPad, all you have to do is update the iOS. You can get the latest version of the iOS by going to the Settings menu. Look under General and find the Software Update option. This is the wireless way. You can also get the update using iTunes. First, connect your device to your computer. Launch your iTunes and see if there are any software update. Follow the prompts until you are done updating the iOS. Check if this fixed your device’s issue. If not, go on to the next step.
Restart the Music app

Sometimes, restarting the app can fix its issues. Try this by force closing Apple Music. You can do this in two ways:
- If the device has a Home button, all you need to do is to double press that button. Find the Music app icon from the ones displayed. Swipe up on its preview. This should close the app.
- If the device doesn’t have a Home button, like the iPhone X, all you need to do is to swipe up from the bottom of the device’s screen. This will show you all the apps that are operating. Find the icon for the Music app. You may need to swipe left or right in order to find the icon if you have a lot of apps working. Once you have found the icon, swipe up on it to close the app.
Once you have relaunched the app, check if the song or album art starts to show. If the issue is not resolved, try the next step.
Restart the Music options
Go to the Settings menu of your Apple device. Find the option for Music. Toggle off the “iCloud Music Library” and the “Show Apple Music” options. This should disable both. Power down your device. Wait a few seconds they switch it on again. Go back to the Music option from the Setting menu and toggle on both “iCloud Music Library” and “Show Apple Music”. One the iCloud Music Library has been re-enabled, it will ask if you would like to keep the music on your Apple device. You can either select “Delete & Replace” or “Keep Music” on your device. Select the delete option. If this still doesn’t fix your device issues, proceed to the next step.
Free up space on your device
If the artwork for the song and album still refuses to be displayed by the Music app, it could be because your device no longer has enough free space to support this feature. Check if you still have 2.5GB of space in your device. To do that, go to the Settings menu of your phone or tablet. Select “General” Find the option to see your device’s storage. If you have gone below 2.5G of storage left, try to erase photos or videos that you no longer need. You can also uninstall apps that you no longer use. You can also go to Settings again and find Messages under it. Enable the “Auto Delete Old Conversations” option. This should free up more space. Once this is done, launch the Music app to see if it worked.
